Didn't quite follow your tutorial as I was working with GIMP rather than Photoshop, but it gave me and idea of how to get this result. :)

(Btw, thanks a load for the brush set, I may eventually forget where I got it but I just want you to know I really really appreciate the work you put into it.)

Great tutorial mate. Definetly going to be using this tutorial as a reference from now on.
Any ideas how to do a firey dead earth type of landscape? Is it similar to taking a map of the sun and doing the same process?
Cheers

At step 7, when I deselect the Land Shapes and the Land Texture blurred, it just shows the land shapes. I've tried the step multiple times, but it continues to stay on the land shapes. I think it may have to do with when I auto-blended the layers to create the texture, they didn't become a single layer, they stayed separate.

You have to merge the layers after you "auto-blend" them. Tell me if it worked.

I did. But both layers already had masks, so when I merge them, it asks if I want to preserve the mask of the layer below or create a new one.

No need to apologize for your English. It's very readable. Also, your English is 1,000,000 better than my command of any other language.
Also, this is a good tutorial. Thanks.

I used a combination of masking and auto-blend (never have used that before!) because I wanted more land on one shot and I had a lot of ocean. Thank you so much! It was loads of fun. [link]

Wait, Auto-Blend Layers? I feel so stupid for never knowing that tool. Now I have to go back and redo all my planetary textures.

Yes but I use a 3d program to render them, Photoshop only for the textures. And now I can use actual Earth landscapes instead of repeating color patterns for various ecozones.

Pretty good tutorial here. It's close to my method of making planets. I personally like to paint my own oceans. It's really time comsuming but its worth the investment.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It's super easy to understand, and you shared the resources. Too bad I have photoshop elements 8 and so I don't have the "resterize-3d" T-T
But I can manage with the rest.

Hey,

thank you for your comment... I am glad it is easy to understand. If you don't have the 3D-option, you can use the "spherize filter" - I'm pretty sure it will work with that filter, too. First create a nice circle with the elliptical marquee tool (if you hold the SHIFT-key while you drag the mouse, it will create a perfect circle for you) then go to "Filter>Distort>Spherize" to give it a 3D effect... then repeat it... I used to use the spherize filter and I usually set the amount to 100% I hope I could help you.
